On the
boards is a project for a series of additions and renovations to a
house in Boulder. In phase one we will be renovating and expanding
an existing 1970's studio building which is attached to a really
interesting 1884 Second Empire historic house. The existing house's
first story of masonry and mansard roof are quite nice and suffer a
bit from a poorly conceived and badly executed shoe-box studio that faces
the public street. The new studio will add some needed area and
knit the new construction with the existing historic character of the
house.
Future additions and renovations will continue some
of the modern language of the enlarged studio to an expanded kitchen
and mudroom. In the end, the historic house and the new, more
modern additions, will establish a dialogue of new and old, heavy and
light, tension and
repose. |
